The care card, in full
Keep it honest.
Plating is a finish. Amber is soft. Both last longer with a few rules, and both can be repaired at a quoted price.
Baltic amber
Warm water, a soft cloth, no soap. Keep it away from perfume, alcohol and heat. Never use an ultrasonic cleaner.
Gold-plated silver
Put it on last, take it off first. Keep it dry and away from perfume and chlorine. Store it in its box.
Solid 585 white gold
A soft cloth is enough. Polish occasionally with a jeweller's cloth. The metal is solid, so it can be re-polished.
Sterling silver
Silver darkens with air and wear. A silver polishing cloth restores it. Do not scrub the amber set into silver.
Everyday
Four rules.
- Perfume, hairspray and sunscreen go on before the jewellery, never after.
- Take pieces off for swimming, showering, sport and sleep.
- Store each piece separately in its box, away from direct sun.
- Check claws and clasps once a season. Stop wearing a loose stone.
When plating wears
It will, eventually. That is what plating does. We re-plate gold-plated pieces for a quoted price, and the piece comes back with a fresh finish.
Plating wear is not a fault, and there is no warranty. A re-plate is a paid repair, not a replacement.
How to clean, step by step
1. Wipe with a dry soft cloth. 2. For silver, use a polishing cloth. 3. For amber, use a barely damp cloth and dry at once. 4. Leave it out for an hour before storing.
